Picking the correct Prop?

I currently bought a 1989 Larson Hampton 22ft. The prop on it is a 16X16. The boat tach runs around 4600-5000 when wide open. (The tach can't be accurate. When you tap on the dash it moves all over the place.) I would like to replace the prop with either a three or four blade prop. Does anyone have suggestions? We usually use the boat for family stuff, fishing, skiing, tubing. Specs-4000lbs, hp=175, drive=alpha 1. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Picking the correct Prop?

The first thing you should do is fix the tach so can get accurate readings. 4600 - 5000 at wide open throttle is not a valid number. WOT is WOT so it will be a maximum reading on the tach. Until you know what that number is with the existing prop, you may already have the best prop so don't buy one until you have accurate numbers for the existing one.
