I've been working on repowering my pontoon! Just sharing some pics b/c JULY is repower month and I'm excited !

After an exhaustive winter/spring search driving all over looking for a good used 115HP+ outboard, I bought this one off an old man fisherman. 1975 Merc 1500, 150HP. 150 HP too much for his 18' boat. Plus his transom was rotted. He was orig owner and motor had 360 hrs on it.

When I bought it...

She didn't need much work, just replaced some rotted wires, and fixed the too-high idle. Also went to a 13"pitch prop, according to the 1975 Merc propeller guide.

I repainted with single part "Hot Rod Black", a satin black like on the old Mopar hoods. I swapped the engine cowling for a 1973 model. I liked the chrome Mercury letters. I used laquer thinner and a q-tip to clean up the chrome decals and remove old paint.

There was no tilt/trim so I had to spring for a CMC unit.

Only needs a few more things..... new control cables are on order. I'm having no luck with a tach, though. I bought an original NOS 1975 Mercury Kiekhafer tach on ebay, but I get nothing. Also tried a parts bin car tach, but nothing. I pulled signals off the rectifier and switch box.. nothing yet. I do know I am getting signals, I see volt pulses on with my multi-meter. I suspect those tachs are broken b/c I don't know if they ever worked. Still work in progress.

Oh yeah, here is the pontoon the Merc will be on in a few weeks. 1989 Crest 29' with Sundeck.

That motor is going to look fine pushing your 'toon.

I used to clean those lines off toons, it took a lot of chemical and elbow grease. I was always bothered by the pitting in the metal from the repeated chemical cleaning. One of my customers painted his with a two part paint. Turn out very nice and stayed much cleaner throughout the season.

You could color match your canopy.
