Would anyone have a picture of what the idle screw and the links of a stock motor without any adjustment???? I'm trying to see if my adjustments are off or not! thank you
A lot of the '73 Mercs would have a sidebowl carb. The idle mixture adjustment is in the face of the carb. The initial adjustment is usually 1 - 1/2 turns out from seated, and adjusted when warm under load, in gear.
Mercs usually have a particular spark advance timing when the carbs start to open. Not sure what you are looking for....
I was looking for a picture of the side where the distributor is located. I wanted to get an idea of what the adjustments should be at. I only ask for this is because the boat won't start in the water, its starts ofcourse out of water, but not under load and I think its out of adjustment. thanks
it started when I first got it, but I think I just figured it out. I adjusted the carbs and now it starts under load! But I wont know for sure until I get it in the water. I tested it in a tub full of water, I'm guessing it just might work.
Normally, you would set the carb idle mixture screws 1-1/2 turns out from seated. Warm and run the motor in gear and adjust the mixture screws (usually richer) to allow smooth acceleration and decent idle quality. Of course, this is dependent on the motor being timed and synched properly.
