Picture Posting help

I am wondering why when I do an "insert image" I get a small thumbnail in my post, that must be clicked on to see the full size picture.

I have seen that others actually have full size pics embedded in their post.

What am I doing differently than they are doing? I know there must be a trick to posting pictures.

The full size pics are probably hosted somewhere other than iboats (photobucket, imgur, etc).
