Hello all I hope this is ok here , I apoligize if I put it wrong section. I don't know what year engine this is. I would also like to know more about this model if possible , maintenance, oils, levels, and anything else a new person to outboards should know.I was not sure if I could post the pictures here so I just made the links , Please give them a look for ma as I really need some help on making sure I operate safely on the water. I wish the pictures were better quality also because on the crank rope where it winds up at the top i the black piece with the teeth is cracked a little and i would like to purchase whatever parts I can find for this motor. Thanks

Here are some links to pics I took of the engine as asked.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/motorrightsidetopoff.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/lowerunitoilscrews.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/Enginerightsidecloseup.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/Frontviewtopoff1.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/enginefrontserial.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/Enginecloseuprear.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/DCP_0824.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j257/badssgtward/Evinrude outboard/CopyofDCP_0822.jpg

Re: Pictures of motor

That's a '65 I'm pretty sure. It could be a '66 with a '65 hood on it, but I think that's unlikely. The low speed mix knob is not original.

http://www.old-omc.de/e_1965/seite_18.jpg
Fuel/Oil mix is 50:1. Use 87 octane gas and TC-W3 outboard oil. You may wish to vary this a bit, check out Chinewalker's Oil Mix FAQ in the FAQ forum for details.
Lower unit oil is OMC/BRP "HiVis" or equivelant 90 weight outboard gearcase lube.
Spark plugs are Champion J6C gapped at .030". Some people like trying .040" for a better idle.

Maintanance is like any other small OMC outboard. Replace the lower unit gear oil in the fall (checking for water intrusion before winter layup). Clean or replace the spark plugs ever couple seasons. Decarb every other season or so depending on how much you use it. Replace the water pump impeller every couple seasons. That's extremely important if you're operating in salt water so you exercise all the pump bolts, etc. At the same time the thermostat should be inspected and/or replaced. Ignition points should be cleaned and adjusted every couple seasons.
Plug wires and fuel lines should be inspected yearly for cracks and replaced as needed.
If the previous service history is unknown, you would be wise to run through all those things first.
The water pump is being replaced by a rebuildable plastic housed pump by BRP. It takes a different impeller than the old style metal housed pump. Be sure you get the correct impeller.

Like the other 2 cylinder J/E engines from that era, those outboards are prone to cracked ignition coils. New ones are cheap and much more reliable. Just inspect the coils when you gap the points, likely you've got new ones in there anyway.

The starter gear is still available from any Johnson/Evinrude dealer, superceeded to p/n 318447 and lists around $12.

Carburetor adjustments are done as per Joe Reeve's instructions. http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=28;t=030558
You've only got the low speed control so ignore the high speed setting.
