I would like to see how others blowers are set up on their merc engines. I have an 82 Glastron SV-191 with a Merc 5.7. My blower only has one side hooked to a hose. This hose goes to an exhaust vent on the starboard side. Shouldnt the other (intake side) of the blower be hooked to a hose as well? Anybody have pics of a similar setup?

Re: Pictures of your engine

The blower is intended to suck explosive fumes out of the engine bay, the inlet side to the blower can just be left open as long as it is sucking from the engine area. It sounds like yours is setup correctly..

Intake is usually hooked to a hose that ends up in a low part of the bilge - is it possible yours may have fallen off & is laying down in there where you cant see it?

Unless his blower is mounted in the bottom of the bilge(not very likely) it is not installed correctly.

Hydro556 - You need a hose from the blower down to the lower part of the bilge (where the explosive gases hang out). Just make sure you leave a few inches of clearance beneath the hose, you don't want the end of the hose covered by water, it would then be useless.

Mine is set up the same way, 4" hose from blower out threw starb.vent with 4-5" of hose attached to blower hanging down into bilge area. Also have a 4" hose on port side attached to air intake vent to allow fresh air to enter bilge/engine compartment too.. Does yours ?? I just replaced & mounted mine with 4" flexable dryer vent and works great . needed about four foot of it (PORT)..Looking at that other engine I feel like I'm cheating on my baby !!

I'm old enough that I actually saw the engine first.
And I think it would last longer.

The one on the right looks to be slightly aging. Hard to tell without a test drive....................... May be time for a newer model, as I've heard they don't rebuild well.:eek::D:D
