Pig tail coming from ECU

Can someone tell me what this part is and how to check it. It has two black wires that comes from the bottom of the ECU on a 96 150 EFI. It looks like it should be some type of fuse or fail safe. I'm trying to diagnose a injector problem. I noticed that the insulation had worn through and exposed the wire. It has two small rubber tits that come out of the top. Still waiting for the manual. Thanks T

That's where you hook-up the DDT to read the computer. Leave it alone unless you have one. It's not a code-flasher kind of thing. Only a DDT or CDS will plug in and I'm not so sure about the CDS.

Thanks for the quick reply. Should a good shop be able to hook up the ecu and see if it is ok. I've read several posts that say they have bought a new computer and it turned out not to be the problem.

ECUs are really reliable. I would suspect anything before the computer. Only a Merc shop can connect to it. Some independents might if they have a DDT. But those computers are one baby step above stone axes compared to most any other ECU out there. They're very basic with absolutely no diagnostic memory. The only faults they show are the ones happening at time the DDT is connected. Otherwise they're pretty good at showing current data as the motor is running. Last I checked the ECUs were $1500. Pretty expensive part to throw at a motor not knowing if it's bad or there's just a clogged injector screen. Speaking of clogged injector screens, you'd be wise to check those.
