Oh my god... Domestic terrorism at it's finest ! Does anyone have any more information as to how these normally fresh water fish have become so acclimated to the murky semi salty waters of the St. Johns ? I understand they are already a serious problem in the Altamaha River in South Georgia.. A connection ? My cattle are missing.

It's probably more stupidity than terrorism, that introduced these fish, probably flushed down a toilet.

Maybe it's the tasty herfords, that are keeping them healthy, making them willing to adapt to salt water. :(

Are they good eatin'

I'm starting a battle to fight introduction of a destructive, invasive fish (gambusia), That it idiots at the health dept. want to introduce to control mosquitoes.

What a world.

Heard of it, by some twist of human / governmental error, one can be damn well rest assured that it will infact end up in the local food chain and pose a serious threat to local resources. Kinda like the "accidental" introduction of the Zebra mussle.

As to the piranah they are from areas that are not too unlike what you find in the St. Johns and in fact can tolerate cooler temps than most people realize for a short time. They prefer habitats simmilar to the ones the oscars and tipallia you already have in FLA but they can and will survive further north.
Now a question are you sure they are piranah and not pacu both are simmilar but one grows bigger and is a legal aquarium fish . The pacu are plant eaters and have been caught as far north as middle SC (maybe even further) and got there because someone no longer wanted them in thier fish tank so instead of selling or killing them they released them to grow and become strong.

yes, and i'd bet good $$$ that NO ONE is willing to go over there and stick their toe in the water to determine whether this is a pacu or piranha...
:D
