Re: Piranha Propellers?
I have used a Piranha on my boat for 2 years. She is kept in a slip on the Illinois River at Seneca,Il. I have damaged blades twice ( broke a blade completely off)with NO damage to the drive. I don't really notice a difference in performance between my old AL prop and the Piranha - but I'm not a speed freak in a go-fast boat.
I would suggest carrying a complete spare prop - not just replacement blades.
If you break a blade near the hub, it can be a bit of a pain to drive the remains of the broken blade from the hub. I carry a spare Piranha. (I have 1 blade for tubing/skiing and another for crusing)
I looked at AL props before switching to a Piranha. The AL props with Delrin or Nylon hubs claim minimal drive damage - the Delrin or Nylon insert is designed to break or spin -- with the Piranha I may have lost a blade, but there was NO damage to my boat. Blades are cheap -- outdrives aren't.
