Guess I hadn't noticed before but Yamaha is getting serious about dealers copying their manuals and giving/selling it on the open market so all their electronic manuals have watermarks including the dealer's account number. I checked for myself and noticed my dealer number was now on everything I downloaded or viewed through our Yamaha dealer network. So now dealers that copy and paste pages in forums stand a chance of losing their franchise.

Ayuh,... Mercruiser got snotty awhile back 'bout the same thing,...

I weren't a Mod then, 'n Don dealt with it,...
Donno what went on, but the manuals are out there in the web,....
As ya know, once something hits the web, it'll never ever be private again...
It just gets stuck in the memory of some 'puter, somewhere...

Thank God I got young, 'n dumb outa the way, Before the digital age.... ;) :D

If Yamaha keeps it up, the outboards will go the way of the outdrive. They sell their product just a tad cheaper than anyone else, then kill you on prices for parts. To make matters worse, their OEM manuals are rated somewhere below Seloc and Clymers on their usefulness.

The fact that they now show dealer numbers on the downloads just shows how childish and low they really are.

All of Mercs manuals for outboard are gone again. But Merc doesn't punish their dealers if an employee posts something the owner of the company doesn't know about. And they don't get excited if a page or two is used to explain something.

For years before the internet, shops used to copy a page from a manual for a customer by just laying the manual on a copier.

John Deere tractor dealers do it as a matter of doing business. You have an old widget and are trying to figure out what all is involved in your problem....the parts guy runs off (copies) the page in the parts list for you and you stand there and order what you need. Then the next time you have a problem with this widget, you can get on the phone, order what you need and have UPS or USPS deliver it to your door. Saves the 60 mile round trip to town.

Re: Pirated Yamaha Manuals

I think I pay somewhere around $90 a month to connect to Yamaha and have their service not to mention another hundred or so a year to cover the little magazines they mail us. You would think we could use the information as needed but then I've never been one to cut and paste that stuff anyway. Now I have done the ole copier trick and faxed information. Guess I'm just old fashioned.
Yamaha isn't going anywhere. They are the #1 outboard in sales in the World. Watch TV, every third world country has them on every boat.
