I have a mercury 2.5L sportjet 240. I am in need of good used connecting rods and pistons. According to online microfiche i need connecting rod 818141A2 or A13. and piston 854687A11 or T2 (starboard) and 854686A11 or T2 (port).

Would connecting rod 644-818141 and pistons 785-854686 work? their from a 2003 MERCURY XR6 150L?

thanks

Re: piston interchange question

Production TOP guided 2.5 rods and pistons are all pretty generic. Tha difference in any of 'em was tha rings. Early ProMax and Sport Jet had 1.5 mm and tha rest had 2 mm rings. Some rods had SPS bolts. Which weren't really necessary on tha sub 7 grand rpm motors. Merc uses alot of different numbers on stuff for different motors for different reasons but when comes right down to it it may not be any real difference at all. Be very careful using used rods n pistons. You need ta be able to check certain things on each. Do not use tha "used" rod bolts imo. No offense but if you do not know what to look for on "used" rods n pistons (especially rods) you might wanna consider new ............jmo

Re: piston interchange question

Please take Ddogs advice and dont buy used pistons!! You have to take into consideration the wear on the skirts and sides of used piston replacements and the cylinder wear of your engine, rods need to be checked for flatness and straightness and bearing surface condition. Dont ever install used pistons unless they came from the original engine and meet the above conditions....

Re: piston interchange question

i was also on the fence about using used pistons and rods. I also have access to the same part numbers but new. Thats why i want to make sure those would also fit my sportjet 240...

So they will?
