Re: pitch

The pitch is how far forward, in theory, the prop will travel in one revolution at 0% slip. This measurement is in inches not degrees as some think.

Some brands have less slip than others. Thats why a 19" prop in different brands will work differently on a given boat.

Tell us more about your rig and what you are looking for.

Good luck!

Re: pitch

I have a 20ft proline cuddy cabin fiberglass. has a 200hp johnson outboard on it. I have an aluminum prop now, but am looking into a stainless steel prop, looking for more speed, and was wondering what kind of pitch would be best.

Re: pitch

Post all the info you can. Top rpm, what prop (diameter, pitch and manufacturer), what year motor, what other props you have tried and the results.

Pro Lines usually have a lot of hook in the bottom which makes it easy to plane with lower hp but keeps the top end down.

Good luck!

Re: pitch

The folklore is that if you change from an aluminum to a SS prop, you can go up 1" in pitch and maintain the same RPM. This can be tricky because most SS props are cupped and this can effect RPM too. They're too expensive to buy to experiment with, so suggest you have all the data previously recommended to make your decision with. Of course, you want to be operating in the top quarter of full throttle RPM with any propellor. Good luck.
