Pitot Tube Replacement

Hello all. I just replaced my speedometer and pitot tubing, and was wondering if I need to purge the tube of all the air, or just leave it how it is. I am not sure exactly how the speedometer works. I have read that to check for blockage, remove the tube from the speedometer to make sure water comes out. Well if I just hook it up and leave it, how accurate would it be if the air in the line would compress somewhat? I hope all this makes sense. By the way, my motor is a 2007 Mercury 60HP outboard Bigfoot motor.

Thanks,

Mike

The tube should have air in it, not water.
It's probably just fine the way you installed it.

Yeah the air pressure from the force of the water makes the speedo work.

To test the speedo out you can pull the tube off the pitot and apply some air from a compressor nozzle or if you're a blow hard you can use your lungs.

You can get the hose at most marine supply places or something similar at a hardware store.
