Pitot tube is the sensor that will indicate your speed in the water. 1/4" tubing runs from your lower unit up to your instrument panel. As your boat picks up speed through the water, the hydrostatic pressure on the forward face of the lower unit increases. The pressure sensed by the pitot tube will be displayed as speed (MPH).
Problem with installed speed sensors (pitot tubes) is that they become inaccurate because of current and swells. Your GPS, if you have one is MUCH more accurate at telling you what your actual speed is.
