Pivot cap water leak

Thought this might help someone else down the line...I had a bad water leak on the right hand side pivot cap at the base of the cap. I installed new O ring, cork seal and gasket. Still the leak persevered. I even found another used cap thinking the old one may be warped. Yes I had the steel plate in the right position with the marking TOP at the top. I even made sure I was not over torqueing the thing. Supposed to be torqued at 10#.

After a couple days of frustrations and worrying that the intermediate case was cracked I finally found the problem. With the cap off and a slight bit of water pressure coming in from the other side there it was. A small pin hole in the housing just below the lower front part of the cap where you could not see it with the cap on. Water was just squirting out like it was supposed to.

SO I grabbed my "jiffy weld" cleaned up the area with Acetone plugged the hole and now am waiting for the weld to set.

The only reason I am putting this out here is I thought maybe someone would experience the same thing. Have no idea how the hole got there or how long it had been there and leaking like that. The hole is probably 1/16" and looked perfectly round. WEIRD FOR SURE but I will sleep good tonight...

Re: Pivot cap water leak

If this is an older stringer model that hole was probably put in there by the factory as a pisser to tell you the w/p was working. Seen them before.
