Bottom half of the gearcase.----Also called the skeg.-----Or lay motor on it's side and see if you can position shifter so you can see the hole.------Did this job many times 50 years ago when I worked at a Johnson dealer !!

Thank you for your advice. You see, I have the motor on the back of the boat. With its weight, I am unable to manage the weight to put it on its side. I'm working with it in the "full up"position. That being said is it possible to remove the skeg like that without having all the gears fall out? I truly appreciate your help.
Thank you

Put the motor in the tilt position. Lay it on its side, pivot pin hole up as best as you can. Stick pin in hole. Now, move shift lever (cable disconnected), and work pin CW and CCW until it goes into hole. They usually have a shape on the end of the pin that will help.

Thank you sir, I'll give it a try once it stops raining :)

One more thing. An awl is a good tool to have available. Sometimes you can see the edge of the pivot hole. An awl can center it easily, so the pin fits.
