I'm stuck! The one of the pivot pins to the bell housing on my '98 A1G2 won't move. I've tried heat, heat and quench, drilling and more heat, penetrating oil, and vibration.... no results. I've broken/stripped three 1/2" hex keys and a GLM pivot pin tool.

So now what? More heat? How long should I apply heat? (I'm using propane torch with 1" blue flame for several minutes now)

What are my options? Drill it out until the head comes loose? Can I get the bell housing out that way and then take to a machine shop for removal of the rest, or will there still be enough shaft left to hold the bell housing in the gimbal ring?

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! I'm beginning to hate this boat!

The problem is you dont really have enough heat and oxy/acc is a LOT hotter

Is there anything left for a tool now if you get the right heat ?

tommays

Yes, surprisingly the teeth are still there. It's the tools that keep failing, so I'm in decent shape on that count.

Oxy-acetylene, huh? Guess I need to take it to a pro?

Just did one like that, ended up cracking the hinge pin a bit ,and we MIGd the pin solid and then MIGd a nut to it,pin was corroded so bad the housing threads came out with it.housing was TIGd and retapped good as new.
