Planing Hulls

I own a 10ft DeHaviland Tinnie and I need to replace my old 4hp Johnson which has seised. How powereful should my new motor be if i wont to run the Hull at about 10 knots with 2 people on board? I was thinking about a 6hp or maybe 8hp.<br />Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />Thankyou

Is here a capacity plate in/on the boat that gives maximum hp. and weight load? If there is, I'd go with the max. hp. Ya don't have to run it wfo but it's nice to have the power when ya do need it.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Sorry there is no MAX hp for the boat. But what would you recommend for it.

10 mph sounds like planing your little vessel. I'd say 6hp would do easily - depending on weight and the hull shape.<br /><br />Make sure you get the proper leg length and see if you can borrow a motor for a test run before you decide.
