I've been reading posts, have yet to actually post until now..

I've got a 93 stratos.. Engine: 70hp Evinrude, 3 cyl.. rebuilt carbs, new fuel filter/pump/spark plugs...The problem I am having is that when boat is in full throttle (when shaft is pushed all the way down anyway) the engine sits at 3500RPM for about 10-20 seconds... then FINALLY, cranks it and hauls butt...No speedometer.. but I'd say an easy 35/40mph.. Basically just wondering if this sounds like an ignition problem or a carb problem?? I've read other posts but no one had an answer for anyone... This is the *only* problem that my outboard currently has... It is something I could live with but would like to know if it is something I should take up with marine shop that did repairs listed at the top of this post, which are still currently under warranty

Oh.. prop is a 17 1/4 pitch, new prop, new doel fin.. Anything can help, if you need more info I'd be glad to post.

Re: Planing prob

I think you prop is 13-1/4 inches in diameter and 17 inch pitch. What have you checked in trying to solve this problem. Not much to go on you know. There are lots of things that could cause this problem. It may need link&sync, could be carb problem, could be compression problem, could be ignition problem.

Re: Planing prob

I haven't checked anything to solve the problem.. just been dealing with it.. I wouldn't really know where to start either, that's why I posted here to get more oppinions, since marine shops just want you to bring it in, and charge you and keep your boat for two weeks..As far as I know the compression check turned up good (according to marina)

Sounds like the stator/throttle linkage is sticking.

JB, that would be the timer base/throttle linkage, no?

Re: Planing prob

Or it is running lean, or it is overpropped (too much pitch).

Mark

Re: Planing prob

No load out of lake. No load requires less fuel. Sticking with too lean.

Go to the props section and ask the question. Also you can go to Michigan Wheel Co. site and download their 2.5 or so Mbit spreadsheet which should give you a rough idea once you select your rig and operating conditions.

Mark
