Planning a 10 - 15 mile gulf trip.

Hey, I am thinking of planning a 10-15 mile trip out into the gulf for some bottom fishing. I have a 1988 Wellcraft elite which I regularly take out in the bay for 30 mile trips to the various bridges crossing the bay. There are a few wrecks that I want to fish for grouper, snapper, bee-liners, and triggerfish. I have all the required coast guard safety equipment on board but wanted to get the opinions of a few people on the forum before venturing out.

shouldn't be a problem, I've gone 10 miles out in a flats boat, check the latest weather report and have fun.

Your boat is certainly capable. Just be prepared with a few back ups. Along with our fixed radio we take a hand held vhf, we have both a fixed and hand held gps. We recently purchased a PLB.
We have taken our 20'2" KW up to 32 miles offshore. However it is always a carefully planned trip. I never go on a moments notice. Not that far out. The boat, fittings, anything below the waterline is checked and rechecked. I carry a dummy plug to fit my 3/4" hose to stop leaks. I make sure the seacock on the auto baitwell is working.
Both batteries have to have a full charge.
I think you get the point! Have fun and post some of those pictures. Where do you launch from? I have several people around the Bayport ramps looking for a float trip....

A float trip? I would be interested!! I live in Holiday and usually use the Hudson ramp.been looking fr that ledge at around the 30 foot mark. up around Wiki Watchie area.
