Plantar Fascitis anyone else?

I noticed about 3 years ago my left foot would hurt when I put pressure on it when getting out of bed in the morning. It was a bit bothersome, but I wasn't concerned as it went away after walking on it for a few minuets.

As the years went by, it progressively got worse. Finally I went to the foot doc and he diagnoised me with plantar fascitis. My son said it was from me planting my foot in his rearend when he did wrong........I don't think that is what caused it, but if it was,,,,,,,,,well maybe that is why he finally straightened out. :D

I'm on my feet 90% of the day and lots of squatting to work on low level equipment. The pain in my foot is there all the time. Ibuprofen helps, but I don't like taking meds all the time. The doc did have me get a foot support to wear at night. Been wearing it for about a week now, but it is bothersome to wear while sleeping. So far, I can't tell any difference in it helping.

My wife works at the local ER and has asked the doc's and nurses their opinion. Their opinion is that I need to wear this support for a couple of months for it work.

I'm just curious if anyone else has dealt with this problem. I don't want surgery to remove any bone spurs as they will eventually return. At least that is what the doc's say. I'm just wondering if I have to make this nightime foot support a full time sleeping buddy for the rest of my life?

I had it at one point so bad that I had a hard time walking. My wife had some contoured insoles that I put in my shoes and wearing those constantly in my shoes made it get better. It took time but it finally went away..

Yeah, I'm like that now. As long as I'm on my feet, it isn't so bad. Still discomfort, but I manage. However, when I get home, all I want to do is become a couch potatoe. Then after an hour or so, I get up and oh the friggen pain is so bad I don't want to walk. I'm about to the point of putting the porta pot by the couch or wear a diaper :D Of course my wife said there would not be either of those choices allowed in her house!.........Then I asked her just who it is that is paying the mortgage :D Then she won by saying that we do have two other spare bedrooms.......yep,,,,I lost that argument :D

I had that about ten years ago. Went to foot doctor, he made a plaster cast of my feet = 500.00, fits me for custom inner soles = 400.00, insurance only covered half the cost. Results after six months, did not work.

Went to my orthopedic doctor for shoulder enjury, mentioned my foot problem, took ex ray, told me I have Planter Fascitis

Remedy: Frozen water bottle, roll under foot a few times a day. Says to go see Sid, he makes inner soles. Went to Sid, says take shoes off, step on cushioned foot stand, takes out old fashioned school ruler that seen its day, measures around feet, go sit down, he rumages in cardboard box, takes out parts of inner soles, Sid puts on apron over suit, starts making inner soles, when done I put them in my sneakers, ask how much do I owe you?

Cost = 70.00 Haven't had a problem since.

Re: Plantar Fascitis anyone else?

I've had it for several decades and GOOD shoes make all the difference in the world. I'd gone to a gun show with a buddy back in 1998 and I would have to stop and rest my foot for 1/2 hour after we'd been walking awhile. My buddy asked what was up with that and I told him. He replied that he'd had the same thing and switched to wearing New Balance shoes and his problem went away.

I then bought my first pair of New Balance sneakers and within a week the pain was gone. I now have 3 pair of NB shoes in 3 colors. Get the biggest number you can, as the higher the number, the greater the support. My first pair was a number 1022 or something. The NB shoes tend to run 1/2 size small, so go up a notch.

Really doesn't matter what brand of shoe... just be sure that they are GOOD shoes giving lots of support.

I switched from Ibuprofen to Aleve early this year for a hip injury and it works TONS better for me than IB ever did. The generic variety is Naproxen Sodium and is much cheaper than the name brand.

Best of luck to ya... I know how tough it can be!

I used to have it so bad, it felt like I was walking on hot coals.

All I did was to do flat foot stretches and haven't had any additional problems.

Now my wife is another story.

She went to a podiatrist who did cortisone injections coupled with the ice bottle rubbing and night splint. It took several months before she felt a lot better. Since she has high arches, we will eventually get her some inserts.

I second the frozen ice bottle and New Balance shoes. I could not wear these before, but after many doctor appointments (refused the cortisone shot), I went with my husband to a New Balance store. In addition to the shoes I bought a $35 pair of inserts and the pain diminished immediately. If I wear non supportive shoes I can feel it, and switch back to the New Balance.

All the treatment stuff here is consistent with my experience, but you also should try to see what caused it in the first place..

When mine happened I was tiling my bathroom nd spending a lot of time balancing on a tub ledge that was about two inches wide. I would be squatting with my foot on that ledge and that is what I think caused it in addition to wearing no support shoes or sandals.

That was several years ago and i still use the inserts in my dress shoes for work..

Re: Plantar Fascitis anyone else?

Started having it bad about 10 years ago. Could not walk the length of the bedroom in the morning with out supporting myself on the furniture. I used to wear 5 dollar canvas loafers all the time when not working because I was not only too lazy to tie shoes but also cheap. To make a long story short I was at a dog show and there was a booth selling Muck Boots. While I was looking at a pair of low ones the fellow standing next to me mentioned that he had plantar fascitis and started wear them and it went away. I bought a pair a week later and within a few weeks the pain went away. Have been trouble free ever since and am now have just about worn out my 3rd pair.

I am not promoting that brand but good arch supporting footwear goes a long way toward curing the problem.

Started in my late twenties for me. My legs would kill me for a few hours when I first got up in the morning. I started wearing countured insoles and they helped a lot. I still get a little pain if I wear shoes with poor arch support, but if I stick to my boots or dress shoes with the insoles I'm usually fine.

i know that not everyone lives in a place where year round sandal wearing is the norm, but i have extreme foot pain probably from being overweight. also i know that when my new balance are wearing out i get horrible back pain. Birkenstock sandal have all but relived my problems. they have really great arch support and when i start having either pain in my feet or back i replace both pairs.the Birkenstock last a good year and a half and i buy 3 pairs of american made new balance each year.

My Dad had this and had the surgery done. Surgery made it worse because not only did the bone spurs grow back but the scar tissue on his heel created new pain. He finally found some relief by using an insole called Feather Springs.

Heel spurs....

Yup.. they can hurt.
I couldn't afford special insoles. Tried many different shoes.

Ended up getting a pair of steel toe waterproof work boots. For some reason this doesn't hurt as much.
