I need a new Emblem/name plate for my Sea King. One is perfect, the other must have been dockside. It seems they don't exist anywhere to buy a new one. I was thinking 3D printing? Has anyone had any luck with this or how have you reproduced yours? SK1.jpg

Ayuh,.... Seein's ya got 1 Good one, you can cast a mold from it, 'n then cast as many repro's of it ya want,.....

Google up the resins used,...

I think molds are cast outa some sorta silicone, 'n the repro's cast outa several options,...

Smooth on mold max and stoner mold release for casting. Smooth on Smooth cast 300 for prototype.

I hot glued emblem to plastic board, then cut out a dump gun cup and hot glued it down over emblem to make a mold. Poured up a copy. Fixed all the defects by sanding and body filler. Then made a mold off the corrected part. Came out great.

I've had good success with products from Alumilite. they have a great website and lots of how to do it video.......I did cast side emblems for my boat and they came out nice......whichever product you use, take your time. You want a perfect silicone mold and that requires following directions to the max. With a good mold, any resin casting product will do the job nicely. You really only have to decide on the hardness of the finished cast once you get going. Different resins and additives will give you different properties. Good luck!
