I just bought my first boat a few weeks ago. It has a plastic gas tank. Is this safe/ok to use or should I get a metal tank? Thanks

It should definitely say that it is approved for gasoline, otherwise it is against the law. I'm not even sure you can buy metal ones any more. All the ones at the marina I go to are plastic.

Metal 6 gallon tanks are available, $100 -$140

Plastic, $25-35.

Take your pick.

Re: Plastic gas tank ok to use?

On small trailer boat over here, the majority (over 90%) of us use plastic Quicksilver (type).
Being a trailer boat, we usually take the tank to the garage and fill up with petrol and take it back on board. The number of trips means after a while the bottom of metal tank are scratched and starts to rust and it will mark the grp.
