I have a 1990 johnson 90. I am replacing the water pump, there was two plastic wedges that came with the kit. I tryed to get the white one to work could not get it to line up so I used the smaller black one. Need to know what the differance is. Is the black on ok to use. a white came out of the old pump.

Compare the key way of your old impellor to that of the new impellor, that should tell you what key touse. Were there instructions in the kit you bought?

Use the drive key that matches the one you took off.
