Should I be able to move the end of the cable (the black bit with the linkage to the motor shift arm) without it moving the cable, or should it be rock solid (which seems to make sense to me!)?

Cheers

Re: Play in gear cable

There is always a slight bit of play within the shift and also the throttle cable (about 1/8"). Play also exists with the engines shift linkage.

The proper method to install is to check the engine's shift linkage play, then center that linkage. Then center the play in the cable and install it to the engine's linkage.

Re: Play in gear cable

Hi Joe, thanks for replying so quickly. If I told you there was about an inch of play, would you suggest I got a new cable? I think you probably will!

Cheers
