play in my steering wheel

hey guys. i recently purchased an 86 larson bowrider with the 3.0 mercruiser / alpha 1 outdrive. i noticed that there is a little play in the steering wheel (about 1 1/2 inches). i was wondering where i should start troubleshooting the problem. is there something that just needs to be tightened? thanks.

flip open the engine cover and look at the sterring ram...it is connected to a yoke that goes into the transom plate.

have someone turn the wheel....if they cn turn it before the yoke moves, the play is at the helm....if the yoke moves with the wheel, but the drive does not move, the problem is with the yoke
