I Have twin 150's. Last year I replaced one's VRO with the new "non-variable rate" unit which pumps 50-1 all the time.<br /><br />I still have the old one and I'd like to rebuild it to it's old variable ratio condition and re-install it so my engines consume the same rate from their resovours. My original motor consumes almost half the oil the one with a new pump does. <br /><br />#1 is it possible to completely rebuild? It was sounding alarms- elecroninc problem it think-<br /><br />#2 is this a good idea? <br /><br />Many thanks.... hope I dont need an extinguisher for this post <br /><br /><br />Richard

The simple answer is that there is very little noticable difference in oil consumption between the pump styles.<br /><br />If you are using that much more oil with the new pump, then chances are there is either air leaks into the fuel lines or a restriction somewhere in the plumbing. A late model factory service manual shows all the tests and procedures to check for fuel problems, how to test oil flow amount, and how to pressure and vacuum test a pump.<br /><br />If the pump for some reason is bad, it comes with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. Talk to a dealer.<br /><br />They don't make rebuild parts for old pumps, there were too many changes. The air motor and fuel pump diaphragms were the same, though.
