Hello All!
Getting ready to do my open bow project, however I am trying to find an alternative to removing cap to get to stringer under it. Please tell me if this is doable....I am going to cut out as much floor as possible without cutting into front cap. and expose as much of stringer as I can. It looks like fiberglass undr cap is in pretty good shape. What would happen if I were to leave the good fiberglass under the cap, butt the new plywood stringer up to the section that goes under the cap and then use fiberglass on the side to tied both together. I can fiberglass over the existing stuff under the cap to tie them together. Will this work and be strong?
Any suggestions are welcome.

A doubler joint is far better than a butt joint, butt joints aren't really joints at all. Its ok to sister a doubler against both halves of the butt joint.
So try to make the butt joint somewhere you can get at both sides...or front and rear halves of the joint, apply 3/4inch glassed ply and glass over it all, some stainless nuts and bolts if its high stress.
But I doubt theres much stress up in the bow.

from what i have read on here i think removing the cap wouldnt be that hard its the putting it back on and fitting it up thats a devil. I am hope when i get to the point that you are at that i might be ok with leaving it on and just cutting a section of the back off to get to the transom. Good luck with whatever you do

Working on a 1972 Reinell tri-hull. Getting the sole tore out up in the bow is a real pain. My stringers ended about even with the windshield, but I had rotted plywood up front to deal with. If your wood looks okay, I say leave it and do what you can. I'd rather do 3 transoms that work in the bow of a tri-hull again :)

One more note: I didn't remove the sole. I cut part of the cap to do transom. Previous owner, probably trying to seal things up, glassed the cap to the hull in several places...

Ok...I am going to do that sister thing up front. Now to next problems:
1. Where do you get 1708 biaxle from? Been reading all day surfed through 37 pages of this stuff, but do not see any suggestions of where to buy the 1708.
2. While grinding today, ground small hole through hull. From my reading I need to patch from inside, and if I understand right...fill hole with opps peanut butter (hopefully I can make it right), then cover with 2 or 3 layers of 1708..then use Marine tex on outside? Does the tex stuff get hard? and does it need some type of gell coat applied to keep it from falling out? If so what should I use?
3 when sistering is peanut butter or pl better to use to joint old stuff to new before covering with glass?

That all the dumb questions for now! Thanks in advance!
