Welcome to iboats!

You will lose some HP at those altitudes, but you are well within the towing capacity of the truck if the weight you gave includes the trailer. However, if it doesn't, you are close to the max.

Welcome to iboats!!

Your Tundra will tow that like a champ.

On big hills stay out of overdrive. If you want to make a habit of it ......install a tranny cooler for piece of mind. The 4.7 is a great engine.

DO NOT use the bumper as a hitch ;)

Yep... it will pull it just fine. If your looking for a little more power, the 4.7L responds well to a cold air intake. They are noisey, but it will give you a little more grunt when towing. Keep an eye on the rear drum brakes on the Tundra. They don't like to self adjust, give the adjuster a half turn everytime you change oil (you don't even have to remove the wheels).

I had an 02 and loved it. :)

All I can say is it is indeed a steep climb but having done it, it is well worth the effort. My set up (see below) handled it just fine and we had a great week on the very scenic lake. I live about 120 miles from big bear and we plan on doing it again come spring - maybe even a few more trips up there in 2011.

Good luck.

Your truck will be fine so long as your patient, don't try to push it to hard your motor will be fine but your tranny will pay the price for being impatient. May look at a tranny cooler and possibly a temp gauge for it depending on how often you plan to go to that specific lake. As much as I hate to admit it (not a import guy) the Tundra is a fine truck and your within its towing specifications but take it easy your not going to break any speed records and pushing it will only put you on the side of the road. If you want to go up there in a hurry look at a diesel and drive it like you stole it!

I would say you are an import guy. You know that your heavy duty Dodge was made in Mexico.... right? (and this 06 Tundra was made in Indiana). ;)

Well I didn't want to hijack the thread so I will make his short, about 8 yrs ago when I was driving my 2000 F350 Power Stroke, cabover camper towing the boat along the sand beach at Lake McConnaughy in Nebraska I found a soft spot in the sand, we hooked up a chevy and then added another ford and I was still stuck then this kid comes by and all he had added to this Tundra was bigger tires and all by himself he pulled the whole rig out barely spinning a tire, I never said another bad thing about them. As for parts of my truck made in other countries thats the nature of the beast these days, I doubt there is any make of car that doesn't have something built in another country anymore but the Dodge is the best light duty truck with the best diesel power plant right now IMO and thats why I own one, I haul 10,000 lbs of home and fun 75 MPH and I get better then 12 MPG average if I don't go west into the Rockies. There isn't an Import that can do that YET, I see Tundras towing fifth wheels now so maybe they are going to jump into the heavy side of light duty trucks who knows? But they don't make the trucks I need right now 1 ton capacity and Diesel power.
