OK the boat will idle and go into gear at an idle. It will also go in reverse with no problems. The shifter seems to work fine( I opened it up to make sure that all was working fine in fwd and rev.) The problem is when I try to speed up in fwd. It seems to slip like its not catching into gear.... But will idle in fwd like going thru a wake zone... I am at a loss.... Please help....

Thanks Todd

Does it jump out of gear really suddenly and feel like you hit a stump? If so, bad clutch or clutch engagement ear thing on the gear. It could be a misadjusted shifter. Whatever it is, don't let it keep happening. It also could be a spun hub in your prop which is a fairly cheap fix. It it's a spun hub it would work fine up to a certain speed and then it would start to slip and the motor would start to rev. up. There's a thread on how to check and see if the hub is spinning if you search the jpast posts.
Hope this was helpful,

When it slips, does it grind and chatter? That is a severely worn out clutch dog and forward gear....or shift liknage loose.out of adjustment.
Or is it a smooth slip like spinning your wheels on ice? That is a slipping propeller hub.
Hope for scenario #2

So true. Dont look up the prices until you determine that is what it is. Hopefully you have a spun prop as stated. Simply draw a line across the hub and prop, run it until you hear it "slip", then see if the lines are no longer lined up, if they aren't , your hub is spun and you will need to get it re hubbed. Although if your prop is in poor shape, you may want to consider a new prop altogether.

take a permanent marker, remove the prop, draw a straight line, like the picture. take the boat for a spin, make it do what it is doing. come home remove the prop, if the lines are still line up, it is not the prop, if misaligned, the hub in the prop has slipped, and need to be rehubed by a prop shop, or a new prop.

I agree with tashasdaddy. I also agree with hightrim and his photo. You actually don't have to remove the prop. Notice hightrim marked the prop in line with the cotter pin. If the hub spins, the shaft, nut, and cotter pin all spin with it, so they will no longer align with the mark on the prop itself.
