Can't substitute, archangel. The plugs are different.

If the plug has a groove just below the head it uses "O" rings. If not, it uses the crush washers.

Either plug will work, but it has to have the correct seal.

In my book crush washers and o-rings are very different animals. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Thread Topic: Fill/Drain Plug Seal - Washer or 'O' Ring?
From angus63, 06/08/2005

Three points:
1) if there is an undercut where the threaded portion meets the head, yuo need an o-ring.
2) No undercut you need a washer.
3) o-rings reusable after visual inspection, nylon washers must be replaced after intial torquing of the plug: "one time use".

Since older LU sometimes have the plugs replaced due to worn slots, you'll need to check which kind you have before selecting a seal.

Good luck

O-rings ought to be replaced every time too.

The nylon washers should be easily found, and if you like to do your own l/u oil refills you should get a handful of them. Should only be very cheap.

But why are you checking your oil so often? I only check once or twice a year.

motor sat. it's a fresh rebuild. i don't want to spend another 700+ dollars on a gear casing

opened it up, filled it up. ran it. drained it. oil was milky. never changed washers. wanna do the cheap way first of seeing if i have a major water leak in the LU
