Please help identify my boat.

My grandfather passsed away about a year ago. His boat was something my mom and uncles were not interested in so they let me have it. I replaced the trailor tires, greased the bearings, and towed it home. I'm having trouble finding information about it. I'm a computer geek by trade so usually I can find just about anything online but, not this time. I would like to figure out what's involved in repairing it. As far as I can tell the only problem is the soft floor and the fact it's been sitting unused for 7-10 years.

I believe it is a 1975. It is registered as an "Admiral" and that is the only idenifying marks I can find. It has a 1975 70hp Johnson loop charged outboard motor on it. I did find a small mouse nest under the motor cover when I took a peek yesterday.

Here's a few pics.SNC00823.jpgSNC00824.jpgSNC00825.jpgSNC00826.jpgSNC00827.jpg

Thanks for your help,
Mike

And a couple moreSNC00829.jpgSNC00831.jpg

It was kept in a garage/pole-barn the entire time it sat. Hopefully repairing the floor won't be too costly or too much of a hassle. Any advice on that would be appreciated too.

The front has fiberglass floor. I thing it's a wood floor from the winshield back.

Welcome to iboats. Nice looking boat. I don't know anything about them but I'm sure someone on here can help you. You can look through the restoration threads and get step by step instructions on how to replace your floor. You will probably need to replace your stringers also. You definately need to check them and the transom while you're working on it. If you have any specific questions the guys on here will help you out and guide you in the right direction.

You can also find a ton of info on your motor too. You are in the right place to find help fixing up your boat. Good luck.

It looks like an older and smaller version of my old 1978 Silverline. Is the there a hin (hull identification number) steel plate on the back? Couldn't see in the pics.

Hey 357, welcome aboard.

There's a very little bit on Admiral boats over at fiberglassics.com. Seeing as you're up in Michigan, I would lean that your boat comes out of the Rockford manufacturer, but who knows.

Nice looking boat though. Looks like it's in good shape.

I can't find a HIN. Although after a closer look at the pictures there looks like a plate is screwed into the transom from the inside, to the right of the bilge. I admit I didn't look inside the boat much as I weigh over 300 lbs and I didn't want to sink through the floor. I'll have to take a closer look under there when I get home tonight. Thanks again for any and all information.

Unfortunately this is a major problem and the fix is pretty involved. Head down to the restoration section to see what you're up against. That Johnson is a great engine though.

Re: Please help identify my boat.

I found the HIN tag. It was on the inside of the boat screwed into the transom. What do I do with it? How can I find info on the manufacturer?

Here's what it says:
Mfg. by Fish-N-Ski
Marine Division of
Outdoor Supply Co.
Tarpon Springs, FLA
Model: SCB15 Serial No: 10721415 I believe the second "1" is a 1. It seems upside down. See pic.
Capacity
This boat is build to accomodate under normal
conditions an outboard motor of not more than
65 OBC Certified Horsepower and
6 Persons at 150 lbs per person
Or 1 properly located max weight of
1429 lbs for persons motor and gear
SNC00844.jpg

I'm also open to opinions. It cost me about $100 to replace the tires on the trailor, $75 to put the trailor in my name/new plate, $17 to register the boat through 2015, and $100 in gas to retreive it. So I'm only $300 into it but I'm on a tight budget. I had hopes of using the boat this summer but now I'm not so sure. The transom is at least half rotten. It's soft on the port side but seems solid on the starboard. I put the cover on it for the moment just to see it's condition. It's got some tears but can probably be repaired.

What do you think it would cost to have someone replace the stringers, deck, and transom? What do you think it would cost for me to do it myself? I'm fairly handy but I've never worked on boats or with fiberglass. I'm looking for ballpark pricing. Where can I get marine grade plywood without ordering online, boat shops? I'm a boating newbie for certain. I'm not afraid to get dirty I am a little worried about putting a ton of money into it. Given I inherited it the boat does hold some sentimental value. Is it worth fixing?

Thanks,
Mike

Ditch that idea right now. It's DIY or nothing. We'd be talking THOUSANDS and few are happy with the work that's done anyway.

You don't need marine grade plywood. Exterior grade is fine. Head down to the restoration section and start reading some of the fiberglass restos.

Re: Please help identify my boat.

Well I did some more homework on my boat. I found some old threads from others who have 15' Fisn-N-Ski brand bowriders.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=257119

and

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=397847

The OP of the first thread also posted this thread below. In it he claims his stringers are all fiberglass. This could make my job a lot easier. I'm going to pull the boat into my garage and find out. Assuming it fits that is.

Replacing the deck and transom is still a lot of work but much less so than if I had to do the stringers too. It's my ray of hope!! I'll post some pics if I can in a new restore thread.

Here's some motivation for you. I am not recommending this for your boat, but the work on the post is really an inspiration.

You will need to understand what you want to do is a big job and will take a lot of time. In the end, I think you will be happy however.

Good luck with it!
