Hi folks, i'm new to boating and am drowning in my quest to find out if my 4.3 is a vortec roller cam or not, all the search's have left me hopelessly treading water...so i came to where the experts are

i'm wanting to by a carb and manifold but it is for non vortec, i only need the carb a rodchester mv4, but the manifold is new as is the carb sitting on it.
mine looks terrible with rust etc.

i have no tag on my engine..
i have a recipt from Feb 24 1987 for job of removing a 165 unit and installing a new 205 v6 alpha1 mercruiser and it gives serial numbers for all componets, but the engine number is not right (i think).
This is from the reciept...
ser.#585696 engine
0a597710 Drive (this i have verified on the drive and on the spark arrest. cover)
a628184 transom
i think that the engine number should have a 0B in the front of that serial number but i'm not sure any more..
you all know how rare that carb is and this is new for a good price and i'd like to get it asap.

This is a quote from his ad
" This has been in my attic for a few years: I was going to use but sold the engine to a friend. The manifold fits non-vortec engines. Fits engines serial numbered below OF001219. Intake gaskets included. Mercruiser part numbers:

Manifold: 11974 Carb:3310-818660-A1"
any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated Thankz in advance for reading and hopfully responding
great boating to all

If you had the v6 installed in 1987 and it is still that engine then it is NOT a vortec engine.

Ayuh,.... 1st off,... Why would you want a Rottenchester,...
Merc when to the Weber/ AFB carbs years ago...
Edlebrock's are the Same Exact carb,+ they're Cheap,.. Brand New...

2nd,... Vortec motors use 8 intake bolts,.. All others use 12....

Thanks Don...
i was reading some post yesterday regarding the edelbrocks and i priced them out the carb was 479.34 and it was my understanding that i had to change to a performer manifold and that priced out at 272.64. thats a total of 751.98 plus 6% sales tax ( i live in B.C. canada, bc means bring cash)
can you just drop on a 1409 marine to a stock intake..? what about the throttle cable..?

This one is a new take off for 400. american plus 20% exchange rate
