So we have a new to us boat. It has a folding Johnson trolling motor with foot control on bow.

A- there's a dial on too of it. Johnson brand. What's that dial on top of motor for?

B- how does the trolling motor lift down into the water? It's on like a slide...

Sorry for sounding dumb, just never used one like this and don't have it's manual.

Thanks

Okay...not seeing your exact trolling motor, I'll try to answer your question(s). The pointer on the top of the trolling motor should be aligned with the direction of your actual motor in the water. And therefore it points to the direction the motor is moving to let you know the motor's direction. It is a mere direction pointer that moves with the motor as it changes direction from your foot control. As for how to lower that trolling motor into the water, most have a rope of such to pick up the head, shaft and motor and lower it into the water. So look for such a rope for your set up. If you will post some pictures of your trolling motor others will chime in as well to describe its operation to you...
