This weekend I tore up my prop pretty good, but am having a hard time identifying a replacement.

My boat is a 1997 Bayliner Capri SS with a 5.7L and Mercruiser Aplha One lower.

The prop is a 14.5x19 pitch, but I don't believe it is an actual Mercury prop. The prop slides onto the shaft loosely and has an insert with 4 splines. There is a separate part that is splined on the outside to match these 4 grooves, and also splined on the inside to match the lower's shaft. This screws in after the prop is installed.

From researching I believe this is done to help save the lower if the prop hits objects. I am attaching some photos, is anyone able to tell me what kind of prop I have so that I can get one ordered for this weekend?

Thanks in advance!

I believe that is a Mercury prop with a flo-torque hub system. Take it to a dealer or look on the prop for a part #. Most props have hubs of one sort or another to protect them. What is nice about the Flo-torque is you can use that prop on different motors by just getting a hub kit.

Thanks! So are the sleeves themselves universal in diameter/size which would allow me to get the new prop and use the same hub kit, or are sleeves differently sized for different brands of props?

Some 3rd Party Props can use the Mercury Flo-Torq hardware, others have their own proprietary system.

Most brands of prop have there own hub system they are not generally universal. Yours looks like an original flo-torque hub the newest version is the flo-torque IV. So your hub may not interchange with a new prop. Somebody who knows more about them will be along shortly.

Thanks guys! I'm surprised this prop isn't branded. I've searched by the numbers that are stamped on it but nothing comes up.

examine every square inch of that prop, the info is on there somewhere, it might be on the Outer Hub, on one of the blades, on the ends of the Inner Hub. It is there, somewhere

Well I got lucky and found an exact match of my prop for 50 bucks! It ended up being a Michigan prop.

Thanks guys!

Nice, now you have a spare in case you cause some serious damage. The only recommendation I would make is get the old one refurbished at a prop shop. It will come back balanced and painted and look new. Wait until you damage your other one (It will happen, not a boater out there that hasn't damaged a prop), swap props, repeat.

Thanks for the recommendation! I was thinking that as well, but maybe this fall when the boat shops don't have 90 day waits for services!
