Hi Guys,

I have a 1999 50ELPT4S Mercury Bigfoot with a mystery hose under the cowling.
It attaches at the flywheel/timing belt cover on one end but the other end is just hanging loose in the bottom of the cowl.
On another site someone said they thought that it was just a drain line for the flywheel cover but I wanted to make sure.
Could you please take a look at the photo and let me know if it is just a drain?

Thanks in advance. mercury.JPG

Hello.
I believe the way your motor is set up, and correct me if I am wrong, but the cowling has vents in the rear for air to come in. That flywheel cover should be molded with a little "pool" area that syncs up with/under those air vents. The idea being that any water that may enter the motor through the air vents in the cowl will pool in the designated area of the flywheel cover and then drain through that hose out the bottom of the cowl. Does that make sense?

Thom....that makes perfect sense and you are correct. There is a vent right above the pool area of the flywheel cover. I thought it probably was a drain but I was told on a couple of different forums to "take it to the experts at iboats". I'm new here but I really appreciate how helpful this forum is.
Have a great day and thanks for the help.
