Please Help me Identify The Source of This Oil

I'm a first-time boat owner and a relative newbie to the forum and I'm a bit distraught by the pool of bluish, soapy-looking oil below my prop and transom. I bought a used 1999 Javelin Ski-n-Fish with an Evinrude 115 FFI.

I took it out with the family last weekend on its maiden voyage (for us anyway) and it ran great. I didn't notice any problems (although I know almost nothing about boats) during the entire hour-long outing. I put it back in storage and I noticed a bit of bluish oil draining from the transom. I didn't think much about it until two days later when I returned to find two big puddles of this oil below the motor and the transom. I popped the cover and saw the same oil in the bottom boat cover, and it looked like it was streaked with a soapy substance. I checked the oil in the well, and it was nearly full.

Please give me your best guess at what is going on and how much of an effort it's going to take to get it repaired. It was hard enough to convince my wife to let me get the boat - I would hate to have to tell her that we need a costly repair after the first outing. If I need to take it in and you know of a good shop in the Huntsville, AL area, please let me know.

For what it's worth, I'm certain I didn't hit ground, stumps or rocks. Also, I primed the oil prior to startup, and probably did that 6 or 8 times. I'm wondering if I just over-primed (if that's even possible). Probably wishful thinking?

Pics are at the link below.
Thanks in advance for your diagnosis.

Re: Please Help me Identify The Source of This Oil

Well you got a leak !!! From here we can get into starting with the motor info.
Post your model number of the motor. Should be on the port side of the transom bracket. Then we can all see what year and model it is. Looks like a foamy mess of 2 stroke oil and air. As the air escapes from the foam it becomes pure 2 stroke oil again and gravity takes it to the lowest point it can get.
Just a guess at this stage though.
Ken.

Re: Please Help me Identify The Source of This Oil

Could be several things on a Ficht....
1) Check to see if the return oil line is pinched, if so it will cause system to stay pressurized and flood throttle bores with oil.
2) Bad oil return hose regulator
3) Leaking oil lift pump or connection
4) Leaking oil injector pump or hose
Seen #1 to be the most problem, followed by #2 and #4.....:D

Model # E115FPLEEC

Model # E115FPLEEC

Thanks for the great info so far. The Model # is E115FPLEEC built 11/1998, model year 1999. It is an Evinrude 115 Fricht Fuel Injection.

To try to answer some of the other questions: the motor is about even with the oil tank, maybe a bit above. Not sure exactly which part of the motor you want me to compare to which part of the oil tank. In any case, they are sitting where they are supposed to.

You asked if the motor was tilted. It was a bit trimmed up for two days after I returned it to storage to allow room between the floor and the bottom of the motor while I jacked the front end up for the water to drain from the bilge. I then trimmed it almost all the way in as I lowered the bow. I think when it was trimmed out, the oil collected in the forward part of the base of the cover and leaked into the transom. When I trimmed it in, it leaked straight down the motor.

The gas line was connected when stored.

I have not been out to check Items 1-4 (not sure if I'd know where to look anyway) of the third poster's suggestions, but will try to take a look tomorrow and use the owner's manual to guide me.

If the serial # will help, let me know and I'll add it. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
