You will have to disconnect the hatch from the lifting rams before or just after you remove the batteries. There is usually some sort of pin that can be removed at the point the ram(s) attach to the hatch. This way you can "muscle" the hatch up and then prop them open with something to reinstall the batteries.

Every boat I have ever seen with electric or hydraulic rams to open the hatch has also had access panels to pins so you could open the hatch should you have to do it manually.

Yeah, there are a lot of "custom boats" that don't have access panels either. Mine does, but I was showing it to my nephew who works for a Custom builder who doesn't provide access. He works for Magic/Sleekcraft who sell up to $200K go fast-look good tunnels. He was amazed at how simple that solution was and they didn't use it . . .

TINO's issue is simpler though, he has power now, just remove the pins after the hatch is up and voila, manual engine hatch. The only possible issue would be that the extended rams would not restow under the hatch. Solution: run the rams back down before you pull the batteries. ;)

Re: please help me out

Most of us have enough sense to have 2 batteries and a switch that is accessable with the hatch down so we alway have a backup

Additionally my boat has a connection under the rear seat where you can jump it to open the hatch.

I also have a small jumper rig made up that goes from a cig lighter socket to alligator clips. Plug the cig lighter into the dead boat and clip the leads to a good battery and you haver enouch juice to open the hatch.

There really isn't too much of a need for access panels...plenty of ways to open it.

Nome of my buddies Cigarettes, Baja's, Eiminators, Checkmates, Powequests, Sunsations or Apaches have or need some sort of pull release.

Re: please help me out

Yeah, mine has the jump posts too. There are also pins on the hinges, so I could get the hatch up from the hinge side too. Probably still a very tight squeeze as the rams would hold it down some. I am not worried much about the dead battery scenario as bomar noted there are definitely ways. I am more worried about a ram failure as then there are much fewer options. I am currently fighting a switch issue, which is pretty much the same as a ram failure unless I can figure out how to jump it . . . Never stops, I keep telling myself that is part of the fun.

Re: please help me out

On ours it would just take a few minutes to remove the back seat and the ram could be accessed.
