Hi all,

I'm trying to set up remote steering controls for my little 10' mahogany runabout. I have a 1998 15hp yamaha 4 stroke with working tiller controls. I want to use an ultraflex cable and helm.

My problem is at the engine side, the control cable fits through the tilt tube, but how do I connect the end of the cable to the engine? Do I need a link arm or something? I do have a little fitting, best described as a clevis I think, but I don't know where it goes. Also, where the control cable exits the tilt tube, is there supposed to be a fitting there?

Please help, my local boat guys are useless..

See your dealer for a steering link Rudderman. The clevis would connect to the engine, the link to the clevis and back to the end of the steering cable ram.

Re: Please help me set up my steering

Unfortunately I think I know more than my dealer does. He is not helpful at all...hes only interested is selling brand new boats....he doesn't care about my little problems! I think my best bet is to discover what parts I need and then get them mail ordered on the net. Here is a summary of where I am at present:

Steering:
I already have an ultraflex helm, steering wheel, steering cable and an A75 clevis.
There is a tilt tube on the engine, but no link arm or other fittings.
What else???

Remote Controls:
I already have a B183 Ultraflex control box and two C2 cables.
I have no other fittings.
What else???

Re: Please help me set up my steering

without seeing your engine, rudder, I coulnt tell you on the remote controls...sounds like that should be it if the c2 cables fit your engine. sounds like you do need a steering link, though. it will connect to the engine just below the housing and right above the tilt tube (should be a bracket with a hole thru it), then go to the end of the cable. the cable needs to be anchored where it goes into the tilt tube (threaded fitting).
