Hi, I have an evinrude 90hp 1986 model: E90TLCDC. Is there any way to know how long is the shaft? How can I measure the length of the shaft on this motor?

Thanks Dave for quick reply. I'm about to make a deal on a 25" shaft motor my motor is 20" shaft. Does anyone know if this motor will fit? is there any way that I can use a 25" shaft motor on this boat? The transom measure from top to bottom is 20". any help I will really appreciated.
Thank you

The measurement you cite is indeed the one to which you match your motor's shaft. To adapt the 20" transom to a 25" motor you have a few options. I think you could research the costs of each fairly easily.

You could change the 25" motor to 20". Involves getting rid of the extension piece and replacing the drive shaft and some other parts. Can be done, but I have no idea how expensive or difficult for DIY.

You could get either a powered or manual jack plate. Easy to find cost (look at any major boating catalog, local shop or on-line). Easy DIY if you have a way to lift the engine. Would not only adapt the transom to the long shaft motor, but would allow you to fine tune engine height if you ever find that to be advantageous.

Finally, you could have the transom built up. This is a fairly common modification on aluminum boats - don't know about wood/fiberglass though.

Oh, one more thing - if you're changing similar OMC engines, you might at least check into the possibility of taking parts from the 20" shaft to convert the 25" to 20". A lot of years and HP are have interchangable lower parts. Just a thought.

Not that it is a good comparison but I run a long shaft 9.9 motor on a short shaft transom on my 13' runabout with no problems. It dosen't follow the "rules" but it works just fine on this boat.
