Please help me

I have an old 15' pleasure outboard with a 50 HP Evinrude Starflite Model 50518, serial 09889. I purchased this boat last summer when my boyfriend was still with me. Now I have no way to tow it or work on it. I am going to try to sell it, but I have a little problem. I need to find the part that allows you to change gears, I know that it is a connector of some sort that goes inside of the motor cover and connects to the gear lever. Right now the boat will only go in reverse. Please if anyone knows what part I am referring to or where I can search for this part I would appreciate your help. Dang Lukette,<br />That could be real tough. Ya see, that's a '59 engine and after you find out WHAT ya need, locating it is gonna be another problem. If nobody here on the board knows what ya need you're gonna have to have a manual just for openers.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty

lukette<br />If you are asking about the plastic part that goes on the end of the shifting and throtle cables, it is available at your johny/rude dealer. If that is not the broken part,,, well the trouble may well be in the lower unit. Parts are still out there, though hard to find.<br /><br />Richard
