Good evening all,
I recently got a '93 Sunbird ( no idea model don't where to find.) with a Evinrude 115 anyway there was a hole in the gas tank (aluminum) and I was able to fix that( I hope!!!!) Replaced the rotted wood surrounding the tank and glassed in. Motor was really had to start and took a while to get running. (BTW figured out what the RED pointer was for thanks to this site.) so now runs but a little rough at idle but when put in gear and gas smooths out great little skipping though. I have sprayed the carbs with Sea Foam and that really helped but just not smooth at idle. Really jerky and sputters a lot when idle stays running for the most parts when warms up. I know nothing about boat motors so any help would be great!! Thanks. Oh yea I am in GA great for fishing and boating ROCKS!!

The carbs need a good cleaning. Spraying sea foam down the throats removed access carbon build up from inside the engine but did nothing for the carbs. I recommend getting the BRP/OMC service manual for your model outboard. The model and serial numbers are on the left mounting bracket. They are also located on the block look for a silver disk the size of a quarter embedded in the block.

When that engine idles, the carb butterflys are closed. Fuel passes through dedicated passages at idle. If they get clogged with any debris/dried fuel, the engine will "lean sneeze" (miss intermittently) at idle. This is a carb issue, not ignition. Usually this will clear up once you crack the throttle and the carb begins to supply fuel from other jets. As hidef indicated, you probably need to pull the carbs completely apart and clean all the passages with a good carb cleaner-like a Gumout type product.
