please help with my merc. 140hp tower

heres the deal.....my dad and i went out and bought a 1978 glastron cvx16 with a 140hp merc. tower of power. the motor ran good when we went to look at it. murfeys law ofcourse, now theres no spark. we were looking at the motor to try to figure out why murfey does not like us and my dad pulled the center wire right out of the dist. cap. this wire does not pull out it unscrews. so....its now broken and i was wondering if you can but that little metal piece that screws in or the whole wire or what ever. please let me know anything you know about anything with this motors spark sequence. thanks in advance TOOCAN

If you can find a mercury service dealer that has been around a long time you may get lucky and find the replacement screw ins. The wire is still available, remember it is solid strand wire, not carbon filament.

and follow the troubleshooting guide for this engine. It will guide you to the source of the no spark problem.

You can buy the spark plug wire set right here om iboats.The spark plug set is do it your self kit.you cut the wire however long you need them and solder the terminals for the side on the distributor cap,and crimp the caps for the spark plug side.Now if you would like to just repair the one that came apart,Like I did just clean out the terminal trim the wire back and solder it back together.Worked for me.
