I have a Sears 9.9 hp Ted Williams outboard Model #217 58621-1. This is my first eperience trying to fix the motor so I could use some help from the experts on this forum. When it starts it dies out and is hard to start again without pumping the fuel ball. Pump it up, it starts and dies again. The ball never feels real hard. I took apart the Carb and cleaned every part with cleaner. Started it up and it ran great. Took it out on the water and had the same problem, starts and dies. Changed the plugs and Gas Tank fuel line but it did not help. Can someone PLEASE give me some advice! Thanks

Sounds like a pressure/suction leak----<The ball never feels real hard.> altho it could still be a bad fuel pump.

You're the guy there so only you can find a leak! Pump the bulb and watch for leaks. Often bad o-rings in the fuel line connectors are the culprit.

If all else fails mix up a bubble solution of dishwashing soap and water and use a small brush to apply it on ALL components and connections in the fuel system.

If you take apart your carb on the part that mates to the face of the powerhead you will see orange rubber. Pull the orange part out and inspect for cracks. If there is any sign of cracks or that it is not sealing PERFECTLY replace it. I believe this part aids in altitude compensation. I did the same exact thing chasing my tail so its worth a try, worked for me.
