I am new here so please understand if I repeat old threads.
I have a 1999 Evinrude V4 115 Ocean Runner. I purchased it in 2000. It ran problem free for about 5 years, but since then i have had what i feel to be too many issues. I am not here to badmouth evinrude, I just need some direction. I have been through two power packs, two stators, and two rectifiers in the last three years. I also lost the gears in the lower unit three years ago. (extended warranty) These werent guessing problems and changing parts, i went to an OMC repair shop. The latest was the stator and a sensor three months ago. $650. The first time out this weekend, it stalled after about an hour on the water. Yesterday, I saw a compression check and its 30 on the top right cylinder. Obviously I now need a rebuild. Can someone direct me to a reputable repair shop in South Texas? 650 was bad enough 3 months ago, but my fishing buddy is going to help with the cost of a rebuild.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Please help

The stator and rectifier problems sound like a bad ground problem. Replace the wing nuts on battery with locknuts. Make sure you have the latest rectifier(has no purple wire) A bad rectifier can over heat stator causing damage to power coil which in turn craps a pack. Check/replace the t-stats as a may be running warm. Pull the head as this engine has o-rings and not a head gasket , you might get lucky and have one burnt/blown out ($7.00 vs rebuild).
