PLEASE HELP!!!
i just finished restoring a 1978 imperial tri-hull from the trailer up...i mean everything...i thought. the one thing i didnt replace was the waterpump. this is my first boat and no one informed me that an outboard that has set for 7 years needs a new water pump. i told them water was coming out of the little tube and they said "good".
it started perfectly, shifted perfectly, ran wide open as a case knife for 2 hours (this baby will scoot). "sputter, spuuter" and it quit all of a sudden. not like i turned the key off..more like somebody instantly welded the piston to the cylinder. 6 hours and 20 miles of lake later i got it home and got the head off. the pistons and rings and cylinders were untouched. like a miracle from god!!! i replaced the head gasket and the WATER PUMP...lol. and now this...
when i turn the key it does this...woont...woont...woont...almost like the battery is dead, only its not. if i take the spark plugs out...it turns over just as expected. put the spark plugs back in...woont...woont...woont.
im not stupid but im not an outboard mechanic either. i understand 4 stroke motors much better and dont really understand reed valves and all that other 2 stroke stuff.
please help!!!
