I posted before with no help but I really need to order a prop now so I can get it before the weekend. I have a 15 v bottom fiberglass runabout and a 1979 80hp Merc with a 13x17 alum prop and I want to go with a SS. The alum I have on now is good shape and the motor is runnin perfect. It is good on hole shots and top end is 5500 rpm I have no gps. I want to get a steletto advantage but do I stay with the same pitch? Will it keep the same rpm's or should I go with a 15 pitch to keep the rpm's at 5500? I have read so many forums and i am just gettin more confused. Thanks for any help I can get

Re: Please I need help to order a prop

Unfortunately I can't help with the Steletto. But without the rpm and speed of your present prop its hard to evaluate which way to go.Its possible someone involved with the Steetto
may be able to help.I would think if your buying ss that you could find a dealer that will let you test drive with the understanding your buying.A deposit would be required.
An al to ss change has a lot a variables. The ss is likely to load the motor more but has a more efficient design reducing drag,It also may lift the hull giving more speed and rpm.
Some hulls might react more to the prop others maybe not at all.
A steletto expert may be able to help with a typical prop selection.
They will likely need to know the dry weight and if a deepV modified V or ?

Re: Please I need help to order a prop

go with a 17 pitch prop..even if you drop 100 rpms you will still be good and have good top end...if you want more hole shot or power for tuber/skiers go with a 15..probably gain 200-400 RPMs..or you could get a 17 vented prop. it is nearly impossible to determine exact RPM change between props specially when you are changing from alum to SS and changing manufacturers. but a 17 SS should be real close to what you have now.

Re: Please I need help to order a prop

Well I guess I am gonna bite the bullet and go with the Steletto advantage 811315 it is the 15 pitch... From what I read and talked to 2 boat dealers that are 100 miles from me and they said that these props are more agressive and need to go down a pitch to keep the same rpm's. I will get back with the results as soon as I get in on and test it. Thanks again for the help I know pickin the right prop is like finding the right mate lol to many possibilites. I guess if its not the right pitch I will have a great prop for pullin skies. Thanks again you ppl are great!

It doesn't hurt to go light because you can still use it and just stay within rpm limits.
If the 17 turned out to kill the rpm you just plain shouldn't use it for any extended period.
Then you end up with a real expensive spare or have to go through the pain of trying to sell it.
Good luck, keep us updated.

Well I got to try the new prop out and it works great. I am glad I went to a 15 because my rpm's stayed right at 5500.

glad it worked out well for you..5500 rpms is good for your motor..you should be happy with that prop.

You should not go to a higher pitch, 5500 RPM is on the low end of what you should turn. A stock Stiletto of same pitch/dia. will likely not run much faster than you al prop, but Stiletto is a good blade design, is thin too, and can be modified. You can cup it properly, jack up the motor and get considerably more speed. I use a Stiletto on my Johnson 35, ran 37.5 mph stock on my 15' Allison, runs nearly 42 mph with the right cup.
