OK, found this on the driveway under the motor, strongly suspect it comes from the motor but don't know where.

I fits in a hole in the mid section right by the trim guage sensor, but there is nothing holding it in place there.

I looked on the parts chart and it looks like the 'tilt pin' but might not be. what does it do???

Tried riasing and lowering motor with and without it but it makes no differnce at all. Should I be woried?

motor is 1986 Johnson V4 90HP.

Any ideas appreciated.

The white plastic washer was sitting perfectly on ther pin too.

The lens cap is obviously not part of it!!!!!

Looks to be a 320792 tilt cylinder pin. It is held in the swivel bracket by two spring clips, 321054.

Well move it from the driveway :D
I would be replacing it as soon as possible to where it should be. I am a firm believer in the "if it did not need it" then the manufacturer would not put it on in the first place club.
My 2 cents.

(1stoff sorry, keyboard is playing up - i' not drunk!!)

Yeah, i agree i should fix it asap. However I don't know for sure where it comes from or how tofasten it back in (i know i appers to be spring washers fro what emdsapmgr says, but looking at the motor I dont see how spring washers wuld hold it where to seems to come from).

And also I was planning on going ut on the river 1st thing in th morning, for maybe the last trip of the season, so if it is non essential I will manage without it for this trip.

I just need to know what it's function is. It appears to do nothing in the oly place it seems to fit???

OK, took it into the marine shop today, the mechanic had a look around the motor and could not identify the pin, they said they have never seen 1 before. Looked up the part number you suggested and it does look like this, however I still dont know what it does and the mechanics have no idea wher it would fit.

Took the boat out today and it performed perfectly without the pin so oh well, guess i can live without knowing what it does.

Cheers guys

It is possible that this pin holds the upper end of the spring which attaches to the reverse locking lever on an engine without power trim.

I have power trim etc. ad the boat reversed no worries, the motor was solid as.

Guess it could be a standard part in the bracket that simply isn't used if you have power trim.

Incidentally the marine shop had another v4johnson in for repair so we had a look round that too to find matching pin but couldn't see anything like it.

Guess it could be from a lawn mower or car or something on the drive. But it is some coincidence that a stainless pin come from another vehicle and end up under my boat motor.
