PLEASE - Need Advice Cobra SternDrive Tilt Line!

Guys,
1994 Four Winns Vista 278. Port engine overheated and melted the hydraulic line to the Cobra (OMC) Port Stern drive (tilt/trim). Mechanic is saying that he has to pull the port engine and the assemblies (all the way to the fiberglass) to replace the hose. Does this sound correct? Does anyone know any tricks to replacing this hose without dismantling the entire boat! If not, are you kidding me? You have to pull the entire thing to replace a hydraulic $50.00 hose!?!?!??! Anyone does this? Anyone with experience? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

i had the very same prob with mine. yes to replace the hydraulic line you need to pull the engine. BUT. this is what i did. if you have enough hose from the transom to the hole in your line like at least 12 to 16 inches you can cut the line and take it to a hydraulic or any air hose shop and they can fix you up with the correct high comp stainless steel fittings for a reconnect. here in canada it cost me 85 bucks and no engine pull. oh yes no leaks. good luck it can be done. I recently had the same experience with my 94 OMC sterndrive. One end of the power trim hose is just about impossible to reach from inside the boat, even if you removed several hoses. I was going to look into whether a special tool could be used to reach the fitting. Based on this thread I may look into having the hose spliced and retro fitted. Thanks
