Re: Please Please Help Me !!! How Do I Lower The Idle ???
There's at least 4 things that can affect idle speed:
1- idle mixture screw on carbs (speed up a bit if too lean)
2- idle timing advance screw on throttle linkage (slow a bit when retarded)
3- throttle cable
4- Idle stop screw
I think that only #3 and #4 can affect idle speed to the point of "grinding" gears.
For #3, put remote throttle lever in neutral. Under cowl, disconnect cable (the one on top, the other under is the shift cable) at throttle linkage (10mm nut), flip the retainer and slide the cable barrel out. Hold throttle linkage at idle position (push the bottom to the right until it stop against the idle stop srew) then adjust cable barrel to fit.
But, honestly, a link & sync. is a procedure that has to be followed step-by-step in a precise order and that include a lot of adjustments that are a bit hard to explain, especially if you're not familiar with mechanic. In fact, it's harder to explain than to do, if you have the correct manual.
